Warriors Battle The Flu, Timberwolves Tonight

Monta Ellis, Turiaf Are Day-To-Day

The Golden State Warriors only played seven players last night against the Washington Wizards due to the fact that Monta Ellis and Ronny Turiaf missed the game because of the flu. If they can get those two players back tonight then they have a good chance of getting their coach in the record books.

Don Nelson is tied with Lenny Wilkens as the all-time leader in career wins. Tonight they face one of the few teams in the NBA that is worse than them, the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Stephen Curry scored 27 points last night, keeping his NBA Rookie Of The Year chances alive. Tonight he has a a legitimate chance of scoring 30+ points and getting over ten assists. However no matter what Curry does he will probably not be able to catch Tyreke Evans for the top rookie award. I guess he’ll just have to settle for trying to have the better overall career.

Warriors, Stephen Curry Take On Wizards Tonight

Stephen Curry Scored 27 In Only Meeting This Season

The Wizards are the type of team this season that makes rookies feel like veterans for a night. For Stephen Curry he doesn’t need the help to feel like he belongs. Curry is in a battle for the NBA Rookie Of The Year crown with Tyreke Evans and is already showing that he will be a star point guard in this league.

Curry already has five games this season with at least 30 points and 10 assists trailing only Lebron James and Dwyane Wade in that accomplishment. If you weren’t paying attention to those names they happen to be two of the top three players in the NBA. Curry has, in his rookie season, put himself in the same paragraph as those guys.

Now I’m in no way saying that Curry will end up being as good as those two. What I am saying is that he is very good and will be an perennial  All Star once he hits his prime year. Before the season started there were a lot of people who questioned if he could even be a starting point guard in the NBA. I think those people are now eating their words.

Arenas Suspended Indefinitely

In a step toward a possible rest of the season suspension, David Stern suspended Gilbert Arenas indefinitely today. Honestly the Wizards guard was asking for this as he has been unable to keep his mouth shut over the last week. His comments, taking the situation very lightly and with humor, seemed to be almost mocking the integrity of the NBA.

NBA commissioner David stern said in a statement today,  ”Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game, accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA.”

In other words, Gilbert, if you would have been quiet you probably could have played another few games at over $200,000 dollars per game. I’m guessing the suspension was coming anyways, but had he been able to eek out five more games, he would have earned another cool million dollars.

What an idiot.

NBA Opinion: Gilbert Arenas will be suspended

Gilbert Arenas finally released a statement (read it here), and I have to say that I have to take back all the good things I have said about the Wizards star guard. I used to think that just because he had overcome almost every obstacle before him, that he had to be a good and smart guy.

Man I was wrong. The fact is, that he is nothing more than an immature “young” man who thinks that the millions of dollars he makes allows him to do whatever he wants.

He is about to be proven horribly wrong.

David Stern has a tough decision to make. I agree with Skip Bayless, from ESPN’s 1st and 10, who say’s that all the other sports commissioners are watching and waiting to see what the NBA’s commish will do. He is about to set a precedence that will reverberate throughout all professional sports.

Jalen Rose and Skip both think that Arenas will be suspended for the rest of the season and maybe even more. That means that he would lose over 9 million dollars. Think about that, 9 million for a stupid “prank” as he called it.

Even worse for Gilbert, the Wizards are sure to try to find a way to nullify his contract. Within pro athlete’s contracts there are clauses that allow the team to get out of paying them if they do something atrocious. I think this situation will qualify.

I really have enjoyed watching Arenas play in the NBA. He plays hard and despite his immaturity, I really like his playing style. He truly looks like he’s having fun on the court. Unfortunately he does not know when to switch from a kid to an adult mentality.

Hopefully when he returns to the NBA, he will have figured it out.

Note from George Patrick

Unfortunately Gilbert has always been the type of player who misrepresents the NBA. When you make millions of dollars, you are a businessman. You need to act like it. He is taking the fall for all other “thug” players in the league, hopefully they learn something from his idiotic actions.
