Magic Defeat Mavericks, Howard Has 20 Rebounds
Dwight Howard Has Monster Game
The Orlando Magic shut down the Dallas Mavericks offense on Thursday night and Dwight Howard was a big part of it. The best center in the NBA had 20 rebounds and 5 blocked shots as Dallas was held to 82 points.
This is the type of performance that may have clinched the NBA Defensive Player Of The Year award for Howard. He was the youngest player in history to win the award last season. He is the NBA leader in both blocked shots and rebounds this year.
Dirk Nowitzki Scores 24 For Dallas
Dirk Nowitzki was the lone bright spot for the Mavericks tonight as he scored 24 points. The loss allowed the Utah Jazz to tie them for the second seed in the Western Conference. With Oklahoma City and Portland coming up in the next week, they really need to be careful. A bad streak could drop them all the way down to the fifth seed in a matter of days.

Chris Kaman Falters Against Magic
Chris Kaman had the opportunity to prove that he belonged in the same sentence as Dwight Howard in the NBA center conversation, but it wasn’t to be on Tuesday night. Kaman ended up with only 12 points and 6 rebounds. The Clippers also got blown out by the Magic 113-87.
Dwight Howard solidified his place as the best center in the league with 22 points and 15 rebounds. All five starters for Orlando ended up scoring in double figures. Howard’s team has won six straight games.

Vince Carter in Orlando. Good fit?

Wouldn't it be funny if we got traded in the same week?
Rumor now has the New Jersey Nets sending Vince Carter to Orlando for Courtney Lee, Rafer Alson, and Tony Battie.
If the Magic secure Carter without also re-signing Hedo Turkoglu I think they move a little bit backwards. Carter and Turkoglu are both primarily perimeter players. Carter is more athletic, though at this point in his career he is a far cry from his glory days.
What they would miss without Hedo is the fourth quarter presense he supplied. His passing and shot making in the final period was incredible last year. Though also an above average passer, I just don’t think Vince Carter is that kind of leader.
If Orlando ends up with Carter and Turkoglu though I think they immediately become the favorites in the East. With a starting line up of Jameer Nelson, Carter, Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, and Dwight Howard; you have a team full of star power.
Without a doubt I know that they would be tough to play. Who does your best perimeter defender guard. With Rashard Lewis, Turkoglu, and Carter I don’t think there will be too many games without at least two of them hitting their shots. Talk about a nightmare for opposing coaches.
