Should NFL Be Considerate of NBA in Scheduling?

Mark Cuban is mad once again and as usual he’s letting everyone know about it. Never one to hide his emotions, he lashed out at the NFL, through the media, for scheduling  the Dallas Cowboy home game against the Philadelphia Eagles at the same time that Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks host the Utah Jazz.

I guess I look at it this way, playoffs in all sports overrule regular season games in others. If an NBA team was hosting a playoff series at the same time as that cities baseball team had a regular season series, I would have no problem with them having games at the same time.

Usually I side with Mark Cuban on most issues. However I think he’s overreacting here. In a few weeks (at most) he won’t have to worry about it as the NFL season will be over. Dallas’ NBA team will be able to be the king of the city and I’m sure the NBA will schedule their playoff games without consideration of other sports leagues.

V (2009) First Episode Highs and Lows

Sign me up as an Ambassador

So the first episode of the reimagining of V is over and I must say I was quite impressed. With that being said there were a few things that bothered me. Fortunately there were also a lot of things that I loved.

Let’s start with the good.

  • Hot chicks. Laura Vandervoort, Morena Baccarin, Elizabeth Mitchell and Lordes Benedicto to be exact. The production team did a great job of casting.
  • The plot inside the plot: The whole terrorism ring really added some flesh to the story. This won’t be a simple good vs. bad type of story. It will be difficult for the characters to decide who is friend and who is foe. Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut) coming out as a Visitor right away is very interesting also.
  • Special Effects: This looked like a legit Hollywood movie. The spaceships looked great on the outside. They looked even more impressive on the inside. You could imagine yourself living on these things for years as you travel across the galaxy.

Now some of the bad.

  • No pre-communication: Why the hell would they not send a signal to our leaders before showing up randomly and scaring the shit out of every human being on the planet. Plus there is the fact that unless they were traveling at almost light speed and then suddenly slowing down then we would have seen them coming thousands of miles away.
  • The Visitor turned good guy Ryan is about to get engaged to a human woman: I have to ask how legitimate that is? Do they all find other species attractive? Wouldn’t that be like us dressing up like a werewolf for Halloween and then fucking a dog.
  • Scott Wolf: Where did they dig this Party of Five reject up?

Anyways, if you haven’t seen the first episode yet; do it. You’ll thank me for it. (Don’t go around cutting your friends to make sure they are human though, that would be illegal.)

See the CNN story right here.

District 9 trailer: We humans are sometimes inhumane

If you haven’t seen this trailer for District 9 yet; check it out. I have some strong opinions of my own species when it comes to how we should handle aliens, when and if they come to our planet. Check those thoughts out after watching.

I just don’t get why we always imagine ourselves going on the offensive first in alien visitor movies. I don’t get how us treating another sentient being like slaves could in any way serve a purpose for us.

The way I look at it there are four scenarios if aliens ever come visit us.

Scenario 1. We treat them like friends and they indeed become friends. We share resources and technology. If they came to us then their technology is better then ours and we benefit. If we have resources that they need then we can barter.

Scenario 2. We treat them like friends and they are enemies. In this case their technology is better than ours and they kick our ass, but at least we tried.

Scenario 3. We treat them like enemies and they came as friends. In this case we just pissed off some potential allies. They could have shared some pretty neat stuff with us. Now after us experimenting on some of their beings or turning them into slaves, now they’re pissed. Can you blame them?

Scenario 4. We treat them like enemies and they are enemies. In this case we may or may not get the first strike. Unfortunately we are probably the underdog and don’t stand a chance. The result is the same as in Scenario 2 except that we never even tried to play nice.

I really hope that when we do meet up with extraterrestrial beings that we use our compassion and understanding to try to make things work. The fact is that a few government leaders will determine the fate of over six billion people on this planet. We as humans need to be tolerant to those who are different and not assume that they are evil or beings that will do us harm.
