Luis Scola Finishes Best Season Of Career

Luis Scola Has Best Season Of NBA Career

In his first two NBA seasons the Rockets did not need Luis Scola to score. So he didn’t very much. This season they need his offensive production, so Scola scored a lot more.

That is what you get with Luis Scola. Basically whatever you need to win and stay competitive. He is a great glue guy who was called on to do more than what his pay-grade called for and he exceeded expectations with a smile on his face.

In his second NBA season Scola averaged a career high 16.2 point per game. He also maintained his rebounding average from last season at just over eight and a half. He did all this while keeping his field goal percentage north of the fifty mark.

I for one am excited to see what happens when Yao Ming comes back healthy next season and we get to see how he plays with newbie Kevin Martin. We do know one thing for sure next season. The Rockets will get exactly what they ask for out of Luis Scola.

Luis Scola Inconsistent Down The Stretch

At some point the fact that you aren’t going to make the NBA Playoffs has to start taking some wind out of you. For Luis Scola that may have happened in the last week. Scola had only 8 points and 6 rebounds on Monday night versus Sacramento.

This was after a 30 point game on Sunday against Phoenix. It’s not that he has played bad the last week or so, but he hasn’t consistently scored above twenty points.

Actually his lack of production is probably due to Kevin Martin returning to form. During his NBA career Scola has only scored when the team needs him to. During Martin’s injury, Scola took a lot of shots from the field and made a lot of those shots.

Scola is the ultimate competitor. Next season when Yao Ming returns he will go back to being a 14-15 point per game scorer. He will however be a very important part of the team and will help them get back to being one of the elite teams in the Western Conference.

Rockets Take Down Grizzlies 113-103

Luis Scola Scores 17 Points In Win

The Houston Rockets were without their top scorer, Kevin Martin, for the last five games. During that span Luis Scola had to pick up a lot of the slack. Martin returned last night and scored 29 points, but Scola still did his share of scoring, contributing 17.

Scola has suffered in the rebounding category lately though, only hitting double figures in one of the last five games. I’m not sure if this is due to the fact that they have no chance of making the NBA Playoffs. He may not be working as hard because they have nothing to really play for.

Scola is known for his hustle. That is his best attribute. However he is all about winning, whether playing for Argentina in international play or trying to help the Rockets make the playoffs. For a competitive guy like him, this can’t be an easy time to play basketball.

NBA Preview: Rockets, Wizards

The Rockets may be out of the playoff picture, but pride should kick in to propel them to a win against the Washington Wizards, who have lost fifteen straight games. In their last meeting, on March 9th,  Luis Scola had 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams should get what they want in this game. Houston should get a win and feel a little bit better about this nightmare season without Yao Ming. Washington should get the loss and help their chances of getting a top three pick in this summer’s NBA Draft.

I’m not saying the Wizards are tanking on purpose. In fact they don’t need to try to lose games. I’m just saying that the brass at the top of the organization won’t be overly upset if the losing streak continues to the end of the season.

For Houston, it is all about getting momentum going into the off season. Yao should be back next season and with Scola playing so well, they could have one of the best front courts in the NBA. However Scola tends to defer when a superstar is on the court with him. He doesn’t score a whole lot, unless they need him to that game.

Of course the Rockets won’t necessarily need him to score a lot next season. Kevin Martin and Yao Ming will take care of that part of the game. What he will do is rebound and pester the other team on defense. He is a glue guy who does whatever is necessary to win every game he plays.
