iJake vs iEveryone else on the iSlate/iPad/tablet

Well kids, the clock is ticking (at this moment just over a day away). The excitement builds.. GREATLY!!

What the hell is it going to be?!?

That’s a great question.. A great answer would be a tablet that does everything I want.. and then some. The picture above is simply a mock up design of what one hopes it to be.

Anything harder?

Great question, and I have a great answer.. How about what could be a leaked ad for the wednesday event?

SURE!!

YouTube Preview Image

How awesome does that thing look (of course, this is assuming it’s the actual device).

Break the ad down…

What we have first off..  ”10 years in the making”.. which is true.

Secondly, look at the back. HOLY PORTS GALORE!!! There seems to be a few usb ports on this thing.. firewire perhaps.. most likely a mini display port.. Audio Jack?? REALLY??? YES.. (Again, this is all stating if this really is the device…which I hope it is.)

There is also a big black strip across the back. A plastic piece of house the antennas  (assuming this thing is aluminum, It’s going to need this part to allow for cell connectivity and wifi).

“A revolution in personal computing..”  MEANING ITS GONNA BE A FULL FLEDGED COMPUTER!!! Again, speculation, but I’ll take it! I’ll take it TWICE!!

I see an on screen keyboard, and A DOCK!! The on screen keyboard really interests me, its translucent and awesome looking. When I first got the iPhone, I wasn’t sure how I’d like the touch screen keyboard for texting and such (after all, it’s on screen… how am I supposed to know if I’m hitting the right button.. But you just..you just know people..)

Look’s like if this IS real… It’s going to be branded iPad (which is gay, but makes sense.. Since Apple has been racing to secure that name around the world..mainly in the US, since it was owned by another company before).

Now, let us get back to this on screen keyboard. I could see it appear and disappear via on screen gestures. The dock itself shows a vast array of Apps. iPhoto standing out…Safari as well.

What’s everyone else think?

Leo Laporte of the famous This Week in Tech podcasts has a very different opinion on what this thing COULD be. He doesn’t see it having email (Wait..what?!?) and a very limited web browser (again..what?!?) He thinks it’s going to be more of a T.V. style device than a computer.

Let’s check the facts..

We know its going to be a media device.. we know this..  It’s going to have a content tunnel to various ebooks and magazines. We know it’s going to do video (Amazingly). We know it’s going to be the next generation of gaming (amazingly as well). It of course will rely on internet access (WiFi or Cell Data). And with all this, to think it’s not going to have something as simple as email and web browsing.. It’s ignorance at best. I get the iPhone didn’t have copy and paste for a year (did you really need it.. I mean, Really?)  but to think Steve Jobs is going to let this thing out of the gate without email.. Dumb.. sorry.. it is..

Price..Price..Price..

Price is going to be key.. The thought process is around $700 – $1,000 bucks. Alex Albrecht (of diggnation)says he has a source stating the tablet will be “Far less than expected”. What does that mean? Who knows…

Any last words?

So, in closing, I’m going to give you a list of “specs” it’s supposed to have in it. If this is the case, I’d buy one the day they came out (who am I kidding, I’m buying one that day anyways.)

2000-2009 A technology decade in review! Part 1

As we enter a new 10 year path, we look back at the technology that has changed our lives. As I write this, I look over at my iPhone and think, where would I be without this little device. It feels like I’ve had it in my hands at all times.

I’d say this device is one of the greatest accomplishments of the last 10 years. Now, I know there are people out there who want to say the iPhone isn’t that great (usually people who don’t know them) but I ask you to look at your cell phone. Not everyone has jumped on this bandwagon, but most have touch screen phones. Ohh..Gee.. I wonder where they came up with that idea.. Thought of it on their own right? Wrong..retard. The iPhone revolutionized the way cell phone manufacturers even look to create new phones. They are the template of the future of cell phones. They also do it the best. The iPhone is more than just a phone. It’s a mobile computer.

When I was a young lad (thats boy for the slow people) I owned a 486DX66 from gateway. This thing flew (insert sarcasm here). 66mhz of pure power. I did a ram upgrade on this baby that put me up to 16 megs of ram.. (yep, I said megs, as in megabytes). Now, This thing was a beast. It would dial up on AOL (which also is big this decade..as in Time Warner kicked them out of their little club) and we’d wait forever on my 56k modem (56k .. v.90 technology.. SPEED BITCH). Do you know how long it takes to load porn on this system with this speed dialed into that internet? Well.. Let me tell you.. You don’t dare try and load a video. Mp3’s took FOREVER to download.

Anyways, Back to my point. My cell phone sitting next to me has a 600 mhz processor in it. Yes, thats right.. my first computer had a 66mhz processor.. my cell phone (the apple iphone) has a 600 mhz processor in it. Apple single handedly crafted the iPhone to have the greatest touch technology as well. No other cell phone compares to how well the touch ability works.

So, iPhone.. I salute you!

So what else happened? Well, iPhone is most likely the technology device of the last 10 years.. but wait.. wait wait ..wait some more.. ok.. ready?

The iPod..DUH?!?

I remember that Press Conference like I was there (I just watched it on the internet.) Steve Jobs walks out with this, “I’m going to own the fucking world with this product” look on his face. And true to form, He did. He released what I have to say is the 2nd greatest product ever to come out of the last 10 years. (I really think the iPhone is more impactful and more life changing, but the iPod is nice too) This product came out with the greatest slogan “1000 songs in your pocket”. Now depending on where you want to go, you can either still do “1000 songs in your pocket..just in a tiny little thing that you need a magnifying glass to look at.” Or if you go with the iPod classic, your new slogan is “Every song ever recorded, and most of the ones yet to be recorded..in your pocket.”  Then, they created the iPod touch.. Which really just pisses you off when you realize the iPhone can do it all..Everywhere.  I personally had an iPod Mini back in the day (it was green and better than your iPod). I had the iPod touch (which was better than your child/small dog) and now I use the iPhone (which is, in fact, better than you).

So, iPod, I salute you!
