Justice after 35 years. James Bain
Haste makes waste. We’ve all heard that adage in our lives. Our parents, teachers and other authority figures probably said it at some point. Well for James Bain, 54, haste cost him 35 years of his life.
When Bain was 19 years old he was hastily prosecuted for the rape of a 9 year old boy. The boy hastily picked him out of a photo line-up. The young boy’s father hastily suggested it was Bain who fit the profile his son had supplied. The court system hastily found him guilty and sentenced him to life in prison without much of any evidence.
Patience is a virtue. Another adage we have all been taught. Be patient and good things will come to you. For James Bain patience was all he had. He had no choice but to sit by and wait for the opportunity to prove his innocence.
The truth shall set you free. An upbeat phrase, something to look forward to. For James Bain the truth came about through DNA testing, a tool that he did not have access to during his trial. The testing proved him innocent and he was freed.
No one is perfect. That one is so true. However the imperfection of the victim and his finger pointing, the imperfection of the court system in an obvious attempt to get a case done and over with, the imperfection of the appeals process that waited too long to hear his case when the testing could have exonerated him in 2001.
This is not just a tale of James Bain. Every year detectives and prosecutors rush to find the criminal in cases, not always caring that they find the guilty party as long as they can prosecute someone. Our justice system is the best in the world, but it still has a long way to go. Attorneys on both sides work as hard as they can to win their case and it is very rarely about the truth, but instead about how to make your side look like the truth.
Congratulations James Bain. I pray that your story gives hope to all those others out there who were wrongly convicted.

PEDA announcement
This announcement is brought to you by PEDA.
Today I would like to talk to you about an important issue. Everywhere I look I see animals running free and it causes me to pause and reflect. I sit in wonder, I ponder endlessly. My thoughts go to a happy place. A place where deer and cattle roam peacefully while bunnies eat carrots and pigs roll around in the mud.
Infortunately these beautiful animals sometimes meet horrific ends. If we stand by more of these creatures will die without a purpose. They will die of old age or be killed by a mountain lion or a stray cat. Some will burn to death in forest fires or catch gonorrhea from Paris Hilton and wilt away. Is that how God wanted them to meet their demise.
I say not.
So join PEDA, People for Eating Delicious Animals. Don’t let another completely edible animal end up as food for maggots. Let them end up as food for you.
(Note: PEDA is a made up organization, please do not attempt to actually join)

Kill the tv…and radio
My first post to the Official South Lemon Blog. I’m sitting in a sports clips waiting to get my hair cut. Watching the tv thinking how lame this is. Not because I’m not much of a sports guy (even though I’m in Sports Clips) but the fact that tv sucks. Cable sucks. Dish sucks.
I’ve come to the conclusion that tv has no good content on it. These days I’d rather listen to the radio… Oh wait. No I wouldn’t. Radio sucks too.
I turned on Sirius radio to realize how amazing it is. Great talk entertament. Howard Stern who of course is the king of all media. Leading the way but they still don’t have it yet. You still are forced to buy content. Yes that has many advatages such as high quality programing and new technologies. Yet I’m sure the future of all media is the Internet.
Even sirius is getting the idea with their Internet version of their radio service. The only service I actually subscribe to.
The future of media is the Internet, and south lemon.
