NBA Player Profile: Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry, the son of NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry, is a Rookie Of The Year Candidate for the 2009-10 NBA season. He was an All-American at Davidson and set the NCAA record for three-pointers in a season. His personality will make him very marketable in the future if he gets himself to star status.

Strengths: Curry is an excellent three point shooter. His rookie three-point percentage of .434 shows that he has adjusted to the NBA three line. He rebounds fairly well for a guard and has very quick hands leading to his almost 2 steals per game. He is very good fundamentally on defense, making up for his lack of size.

Weaknesses: His assists are a little low for an NBA point guard, but he should improve on those numbers as he gets more experience. He hasn’t been able to translate his numbers into wins for his team yet.

Our Opinions

James: He is a future superstar. His work ethic, natural ability and infectious smile will make him a media darling. He will be a borderline Hall Of Fame candidate and if he can show that he can lead a team deep into the playoffs he should make it. I see him becoming a 25 point, 8 assists and 2.5 steal per game guy for a long time and maybe end up as one of the top three long range shooters in NBA history.

George: He’s on a bad team that puts up a lot of shots. The opposing players don’t need to play hard defense on him because they are not usually in danger of losing to the Warriors. He will be a solid player in the NBA, but time will tell if he will perform once (and if) teams start to focus on him. Just like Brandon Jennings flopped once teams started guarding him with intensity, I think Stephen Curry will struggle when that happens.
