Omri Casspi Finds Other Ways to Contribute
For many rookies a shooting slump would mean disaster. Most first year players haven’t figured out how to contribute more than the one dimension that got them drafted. Omri Casspi has made sure that he is valuable to his team no matter how he’s shooting.
Even though the Kings have lost four of their last five games, Casspi has not sat idly by and watched their slump from the sidelines. He is still working hard and finding other ways of getting it done. For instance, against Orlando, Casspi grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 5 assists. His worst rebounding output in the last five games has been 6.
This despite his inconsistent shooting. He has scored in double figures in each of the last five games, but he has only shot fifty percent in one of those games. In those same games he is averaging 8.6 rebounds.
Since returning from injury, teammate Tyreke Evans has reinforced his position as the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year. However, Casspi is still doing all the right things to maintain his spot in the top three (with Brandon Jennings). If the Kings can get themselves back in the playoff race, they have a legitimate shot at having the top two rookies.
