NBA.com Poll: Yao vs Oden
According to a poll on NBA.com, 31% of respondents think that, if healthy, Greg Oden will have a better season than Yao Ming next year. I just have one thing to ask.
Are y’all crazy or on drugs?
Yao Ming is averaging 19 points and 9 rebounds a game for his career. He shoots better than 82% from the free throw line and his field goal percentage is well above 50 percent.
Greg Oden, in his best season do date, was averaging 12 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. His field goal percentage was 60 percent, but that was because he shoots so close the the basket, he has no outside game.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Oden. However his ceiling is probably 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks per game. Very good number no doubt. Yao, on the other hand, is a franchise player who’s shooting range extends almost to the three point line.
The biggest thing that will determine this argument is health. Both players have an awful time staying on the court. At 7-foot-6, Yao tends to miss big stretches of NBA seasons. Oden on the other hand seems to be a loser in the game of luck. His injuries seem to be freak accidents.
I really hope that both these guys are healthy when the next NBA season opens up. That way the idiots who voted for Oden on this poll can be proven horribly wrong.
