Arenas Had Unloaded Guns in His Locker

Gilbert Arenas is not a dumb guy. Sometimes athletes get a bad rep on intelligence, buy this guy is very smart. So why the hell was he stupid enough to keep guns (unloaded) in his locker? And what should the NBA do about it?

I really thought that athletes would have learned a lesson from Plaxico Burress. Weapons and sports stars do not mix.

The thug persona that gets attributed to these young, rich gentlemen is not what the NFL and NBA are attempting to show to it’s fan base. That is why Roger Goodell was so quick in suspending Burress. Now the NBA has a decision to make and a precedence to set.

In Gilbert’s defense, it seems like the guns were not loaded and he was only keeping them there to get them out of the house. He says that he didn’t want them around now that his daughter has been born.

The question is, why couldn’t he sell them? There had to be some outlet to get rid of them. He knew his daughter was coming and if he felt that strongly about not having weapons in the house with her, why didn’t he think the situation all the way through?

Come on Gilbert, you knew the NBA would not be cool with this situation. Luckily for him I do not think David Stern will do much. The question is whether they should. Should they suspend him for an extended period of time and send a message to other players that basketball and guns don’t mix?
