NBA Quarter Season Awards

MVP

1. Kobe Bryant 28.9 pts, 5.6 reb, 4.2 assists. He is the best player on the best team. He doesn’t score 30 points per game because he doesn’t need to. Kobe has shown that he can be a team leader who is more concerned with winning than stats.

2. Lebron James 28.8 pts, 7 reb, 8 assist. The most talented basketball player on the planet. His teams record hurts his chances at repeating at MVP. Lebron needs to get the other players on his team to play at their best. He is a great passer and scorer, but for some reason he doesn’t inspire great team play.

3. Steve Nash. 18.1 pts, 11.4 assist, 3 reb. Nash is once again leading his team to one of the best records in the NBA. He is one of the greatest passers in the history of the game and most definitely one of the best teammates ever.

Rookie of the Year

1. Tyreke Evans, Sac. 20 pts, 5.1 reb, 5.1 assist. Evans is on pace to have one of the greatest all around rookie seasons in league history. Along with fellow rookie Omri Casspi, he is leading the Kings on a resurgence. If this team stays together they can be really good in a couple of years.

2. Brandon Jennings, Mil. 20.3 pts, 3.9 reb, 6.2 assists. Jennings’ points per game average has fallen quite a bit the last few weeks. That is actually a decent sign because his assist average has risen. If Milwaukee is to get back into the playoff race they need Jennings to be a solid floor leader, not a gunner.

3. Stephen Curry, GS. 11.8 pts, 3.5 reb, 4.5 assist. You may think that I picked Curry over Johnny Flynn because I’m a huge fan. That may have swayed my vote a little, but it also has to do with Golden State’s slightly better record and Curry’s 2 steals per game.

Defensive Player of the Year

1. Josh Smith, ATL. 2.42 blocks, 1.6 steals, 8.2 reb. Smith is a hustler on defense and you have to give him a lot of credit for Atlanta’s great start. He no longer plays against his team which is evident by his lack of 3 point shots.

2. Dwight Howard, ORL. 2.3 blocks, 13 reb, 1 steal. More than likely Howard will end the year as the Defensive Player winner. He is a monster inside and plays his heart out. Look for him to repeat as the league leader in rebounds and blocks.

3. Gerald Wallace, CHA. 12.1 reb, .7 blocks, 1.8 steals. Wallace needs more credit for how great he is. This guy just straight up hustles. For a 6′7″ guy to average over 12 rebounds a game is nuts. His almost 2 steals per game places him among the league leaders. If his team were better he would be a household name.
