Stephen Curry Shows He Belongs

The first thing you notice is the pure shot. Stephen Curry can make the net whistle as the ball goes through. There never was any question to his shooting ability. However  a lot of other leading scorers from the NCAA (think Adam Morrison, Bo Kimble) did not translate well to the NBA.

The difference is that Curry is not a one dimensional player. He can shoot for sure, but he is also a pretty decent passer (should improve that aspect as time goes by) and he has quick hands, which explains his almost 2 steals per game. His rebounding is decent at 3.5 per game (8th best among rookies).

His scoring average is only 11.8, but that is not a true reflection of his offensive power. He is not being relied upon to carry the load. Monte Ellis and Corey Magette are both accomplished scorers. Curry just has to get in where he fits in. That means that he has games like the one against Washington with 27 points and others like the one before where he had 8 points.

Where he has been consistent is that he plays hard every game. He plays hard on defense, nullifying the disadvantage he was supposed to have due to size. He plays within a team concept, which is rare for a rookie on a team as dysfunctional as Golden State.

Tyreke Evans and Brandon Jennings should easily take the first and second spot in Rookie of Year balloting. However keep an eye out for Curry by seasons end, he should be adding his name to the list.
